Permanent Jewellery

What is Permanent Jewellery?

Permanent jewellery (sometimes referred to as welded jewellery) is jewellery such as an anklet or bracelet with instead of having a clasp, has a small welded jump ring. This gives a seamless appearance.

What is also exciting about permanent jewellery is that you can choose your own chain and and charms or connectors at the appointment, making a bespoke design just for you.

As well as being a lovely thing to have fitted for yourself, permanent jewellery is ideal to have done with friends and family, at an individual appointment or at a girls’ night or hen do etc.

I am based in That Rosie Glow in North Berwick on Tuesdays, book HERE or, if you would like to arrange a pop up or private party at another location please just get in touch.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take?
Appointments are 25 minutes long. This gives plenty of time for you to browse the chain and charms, make your choices and have your new jewellery fitted.

Are you qualified/experienced?
Yes. I’ve been a working jeweller for over 10 years and have completed an accredited course in permanent welded jewellery which means I am fully insured to provide this.

What age do I need to be for permanent jewellery?
I’m insured to fit permanent jewellery to over 18s only. If you’d like to get jewellery for someone younger than this, they would need to have a clasp added to theirs. I don’t charge extra for this and can do it at the same appointment.

Are there any medical exclusions?
Yes, if you have a pacemaker, a heart condition or are allergic to any metals I cannot fit you with permanent jewellery.

Does it hurt?
No – the welding part is just a quick flash and burst of air. To make extra sure you are protected, I place leather between your skin and the jewellery and give you special welding protective goggles.

Can I take it off?
Permanent jewellery is designed to be worn continuously. If you do need to take it off for anything just cut it at the jump ring and when you’re ready for it to be refitted just book in to have that done.

What if I break it?
The jewellery is strong, but not indestructible. If your jewellery gets caught on something and breaks, you can book back in to have it rewelded.

Will it tarnish?
Some metals are more prone to tarnishing than others. I wouldn’t recommend sterling silver if you’re someone who spends a lot of time in swimming pools as chlorine is particularly bad for jewellery. In that case I’d recommend gold fill or 9ct gold.
The best way to keep your new jewellery looking it’s best is to follow the care instructions.
If you happen to tarnish something badly with chemicals for example I do offer a repolish and reweld service.

Can you match a specific style of chain?
Yes if there is something specific you are looking for, whether chain or charm please just get in touch as I’d be happy to source this for your appointment.
